Our class from around the world.

Hello everyone! Today in class for cyber-smart we had to make a map of where people were born and how far they had travelled to get to our school. Or to get to Auckland. This is my interactive map, my tag is on Auckland Hospital under the name Izzie. It is dark pink. here are the questions we had to answer:

How far have some students travelled?
Some one from Brisbane has travelled 2314 Km to get to Waikowhai Primary. and Some one from Tonga travelled 1790 Km to get here.

Why do people make the choice to move to a different country?
People might move to a different country because their country is polluted, or they have family in a different country. Also NZ has good jobs that you can get and good money.

Is this a trend in the NZ society? what does media tell us?
I think that lots more people are coming to NZ because it doesn't have dangerous animals, and we don't have pollution. Media says this is a bad thing because if we get very popular more terrorists might come. Media says that in summer it is a bad thing NZ'ers wear bare feet.

Here is a video link about all the 10 year olds explaining that there is a lie going around about the things that other country's citizens can and can't do and the horrible racism going around. It made me feel sad about how mean some people are.

Some facts about NZ:

  • In most country's you get your bill and put the money on your table bat in NZ you go up to the counter to pay.
  • lots of people prefer the coffee in NZ
  • The wild life is different in NZ compared to other country's
  • New Zealand experiences about 15,000 earthquakes per year but thankfully most of these are so deep they cannot be felt. However, about 150-200 earthquakes are felt up and down the country each year, some much more severe than others. During my time in New Zealand I experienced 4 and they are scary. Most buildings are now designed to rock with the earth to absorb the impact so they physically sway from side to side during an earthquake. Due to being on a fault line, this factor is just a normal way of life here.
  • People think we use strange names for things such as these: cling film in NZ is glad wrap, and a cool box in NZ is a chilly bin.
  • lots of places in NZ are hard to pronounce.
  • Mostly everything in NZ you pay for with a card.
  • people think everyone in NZ is very friendly.
