My holiday adventure

I woke up suddenly as a huge gust of wind blasted through the open window.
What was this strange bed? Where was I? Another gust of wind came flying in, and knocked my thoughts into me. I remembered that I was in Matakana, and I was sleeping in the same room as my  brother, in a rented bach.  I looked at the clock that stood beside my bed. MIDNIGHT!!!! I huddled down under the covers and fell asleep once more. When I woke up again, the sun's rays had covered up the moon. It was now 8:00 am, a  much more appropriate time to wake up…

I leaped out of bed  and chucked on some clothes, then rushed into the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. No one else was awake, just me. The whole house was quiet and still, like a lion about to pounce on its prey. Once I had made up my corn- flakes I seated myself at the table, and started munching. I gazed out at the view, in a world of my own, so my mother's voice startled me.

“Morning sweetheart” she said, “Morning Mum” I answered. Soon everyone was awake and ready to get on with the day. First of all we went to the farmers market and my dad brought a pie and some bread. Then once all the boring stuff was done we hopped into the car and drove down to the beach.  From the window of my car I gazed out at the view of water, waves and sand. And then the car came to a halt and I leapt out.

I stepped onto the sand and felt its squishiness between my bare toes. I jumped up and down a little, waiting for my mum and dad and brother to come. Bits of water from the wet sand flicked onto the back of my legs.  We started walking along the seashore, with the sound of crashing waves in the background. I picked up shells and threw them into the ocean. They landed with  little PLOPS! in the water.
My mum and dad sat down for a rest for a while, soI started drawing little things in the sand. Once again I wandered off into my own world.

When we were off the beach and back on grass, the whole family walked down to the playground. I instantly leapt into the swing and started swinging myself. I soared into the sky like a bird flying higher and higher. I felt the rush of cold air on my face and the warm rays of sun on my cheeks and back. I smelled the freshly cut grass down below me.
“Come on Izzy!” called my mum. So I hopped back in the car and we drove back to the bach.

At last we arrived. We unpacked, and me and my brother quickly showered. I got into my comfy rabbit-covered night clothes. We watched a movie. The movie was called Zootopia and It was really good. I stayed up late. I went into my bedroom and got my book, then I dipped into the world of Gwen Archer ( The main character ) and her pony Teasel. After a while my Mother sent me and Jack to bed. I stayed awake for a while, cuddling my soft toy. Occasionally I whispered to Jack but eventually (to be exact at 9.30 PM) I dozed off. Into a deep, deep sleep.

My Matakana holiday went on for more than just one day, but I've chosen to write about just this super fun day. My holiday at Matakana was super fun and I really do hope I can go again ( but I would probably like to go again  in a much less rainy season!)

KEY
Short sentence: Izzy
Simple sentence:  Izzy

This is some recount writing that I did in class all about one thing I did over the term break. I wrote about a day in Matakana. We had to focus on adding short and simple sentences. Matakana  is a great place to have a holiday!  I hope you like my work. Feel free to comment!

  1. You have done a great job of editing your work Izzy to make sure your punctuation, spelling and phrasing is correct. It is interesting to read and makes me think about being on holiday at the beach at Pakiri and Waipu. I really enjoy visiting markets and the Matakana market is an exciting one. Some of your highlighted sentences are compound and complex, but you have a full range of great sentences throughout. Nice job.
