Amazing africa

Today in class we have been introduced to the learning system called 'Summer learning journey'.
They give you a whole lot of activities to do over the summer, so that you don't forget all your knowledge while you are partying and swimming.
I  am starting 1 of the activities today, and I will be telling you guys some facts about South Africa.

At the very edge of the country there is an amazing site.
2 beautiful seas mix together.
1 is the Atlantic ocean, the second biggest oceon in the whole world.
It covers 1/5 of the worlds surface! And the other is the Indian ocean, it is the warmest ocean in the whole world!
The national animal for South Africa is the springbok which is the logo for their  rugby team, and their national colours are mostly yellow and green. But sometimes black.
There is no national birthday for south Africa, but they have 14 other holidays.
The ethnic mix includes Black African, white, Asian and more!
Some native animals in south Africa include:
The African elephant (the largest living land mammal!)
The leopard (who have very distinctive black spots covering their blondish fur.)
The Buffalo (including the blue buffalo)
&
The lion (the second biggest feline in it's family.)
Some animals you also might find in south Africa is the humpback or brides whales.
Also sardines come in skoals of around millions searching for warmer waters. This is called the sardine run.

Here are some pictures:

  1. Kia ora Isabelle,

My name is Megan, and I will be one of the people blogging with you this summer for the Summer Learning Journey. Wow, what an awesome start to the Summer Learning Journey. I really like how you introduced us to the native animals in Africa. I had never heard of the blue buffalo so I googled it and was dissapointing to find out that it wasn't actually blue, it is just the name. Do you know where the name 'blue buffalo' came from?

I am thrilled that you've registered for the Summer Learning Journey with us. I know it can sometimes be tricky to get started. I have included a link to the week one activities, but remember, you can do them in any order! Check out the activities on our website, and then post your responses to the activities here on your blog site.

I am so excited to read more of your posts!

    Have a lovely day,
    Megan :)
